Algeria bought 234 million euros of Italian arms in 2013

A parliamentary Italian report shows that Algeria is still in the forefront of countries that are importing weapons and military systems of this EU country, as Algeria ranks third largest importer of arms from Rome in 2013, while it ranks the first African country with imports that reach 10% of the total sales of Italy’s weapon.

According to a detailed report of the Italian Senate “Sanato” about Italian arms exports and imports in 2013, Algeria has maintained its traditions in the field of arms import from Italy as the third largest importer of arms from Italy, as the value of Algeria’s imports of weapons and military systems reach 234 million euros, which is like 10.91% of the total imports of Italian weapons for the same year.
According to the parliamentary derailed report that was stated in 1672 pages, a copy of it is available to Echorouk, the procurement processes and transactions that are concluded by Algeria has reached 18 process and deals that were represented by manufacturers, like Ogustla, East Land, Horizonte Sistemi Navali, Smad Nortorb Grumman and SELEX Communications, while Algeria’s imports varied between missiles, guns and weapons systems with more than 12 millimeters standards, and ground vehicles, naval ships, helicopters, electronic equipment, uninhibited, molten and semi-processed equipment and tear gas. 
Algeria came behind each of Saudi Arabia, which topped the list of importers of Italian arms, with a total imports of 296 million euros by 13.79%, and Germany with 285 million euros. 
In the African continent Algeria ranks the first largest importer of weapons and military systems from Rome, while Egypt came second with imports that amounted to 17.19 million euros and 8 deals and percentage of holdings that reach to 0.8%, then Mauritania with 12 million euros, then Morocco with 3.26 million euros. 
Algeria occupied the top importers of arms from Italy in 2011 with a total financial value that exceeded 447 million Euros, and covered 9% of Italy’s exports of arms during the same year. 
The law of July 90 forced the Italian government to introduce its policy with a detailed report concerning arms export revenues and import costs, as the report is represented both in the “Sanato” which is the Senate, and “Lacamera”  which is the House of Representatives.
