The Committee for the Preservation of the Wheat Algerian Professional Office filed a lawsuit following the importing of consecutive quantities of rotten wheat.

The Committee says the Wheat Office imported more than 45,000 tons of rotten wheat on French Rainbow and Cambpaul ships. It reported testimonies of customs and quality surveillance departments.

Other ships were transferred to ports in the provinces of Oran, Mostaghanem and Annaba. Billions were spent on those suspicious deals while other billions were consumed in the treatment of the rotten wheat.

According to the Committee, a complaint will be lodged against the Office’s managers as it criticizes them for sealing suspicious deals and hitting national economy.

Algeria imports 5 million tons of wheat per year. A total of 3.8 million of it comes from France.

A study conducted by French experts shows that French wheat has a limited nutritional value. Because of that, demand for it is decreasing in world markets. Yet, imported wheat from Algeria’s former colonizer remains almost the only source to provide national market with this largely consumed product.
