Abdelaziz Sbaa, Algeria's abassador to Qatar

The African Group of African States’ 25th Ambassadors accredited in Doha was created on Thursday. This came after many months of meetings and preparatory sessions. Algerian Ambassador Abdelaziz Sbaa was elected as a periodic head of this group for a year.

The Group will be in charge of coordinating cultural, sportive and social programs in Qatar. It will also work with Qatari authorities to reactivate economic cooperation between Doha and the African States Groups. It will also work to boost partnerships and encourage Qatari investments in African nations.

The event was hosted at the Algerian embassy in Doha in presence of 20 African ambassadors. Somalia, Libya, Ethiopia and Eritrea’s ambassadors were absent due to “professional obligations.”

After being elected, the Algerian ambassador took the floor thanking the group for trusting him and Algeria.

“Algeria has always been a home for all the Africans. The world knows it for its continuous actions to boost development movement in the African continent,” he said.

Speaking about the African Group of Ambassadors, he said it will work on supporting cooperation relations between Qatar and African nations. It will work to show the continent’s capacities.

“We will work with Qatari authorities to organize different events in ministries and institutions. We are sure we they will help us,” he added.

The African ambassadors congratulated the Algerian ambassador and highlighted Algeria’s history in supporting liberation movements in the continent.
