Over 90 thousands teachers went on strike on Sunday.

Algerian education sector largely followed on Sunday the strike initiated by the independent unions, while the percentage varied in the other sectors but the initiators of the strike agreed upon the increase of the salaries and face the threats of the government to sue them if they carry on their movement.

More than 90 thousand teachers including retired and temporary ones went on strike to express their anger as to their social conditions which left most of the schools especially high schools in a total paralysis.

Algiers high schools were almost empty since most of the students left their classrooms early in the morning, amid great concerns as to the end of the academic year especially that they are set to pass the baccalaureate and the program has not fully respected.

The students denounced a heavy timetable and an overloaded program, the equation is very hard to solve in the sense that they have to finish the program in a very tight period amid great turbulences.

The teachers took on themselves to finish the program but at the expense of their “salaries”, according to one of them. They were jamming in the schoolyards to discuss their situation and their future prospects.

They vowed to pursue their movement till the fulfilment of their demands including the integration of the temporary teachers and the settlement of unpaid wages for some.

On the other hand, the teachers menaced to boycott the last semester exams if the relevant ministry sticks to its sticks to its position.
