Lakhdar Belloumi is a former Algerian football player
Echoroukonline quoted reliable sources in Cairo that the so-called Belloumi affair is about to be settled following the decision by the Egyptian doctor to forsake all the legal proceedings, brought several years ago, against the former Algerian football international player.
The Egyptian doctor who lost an eye during a brawl in Cairo hotel lounge between Algerian footballers and a group of Egyptian supporters, is reported to have relinquished his legal proceedings against Lakhdar Belloumi whom he accused of having assaulted him in the late 90’s.
Lakhdar Belloumi had earlier sent a message to the Egyptian football Federation in which he warmly congratulated the Egypt national football squad for their triumph in the recent Africa Cup of Nations’ competition in Ghana .
A move highly appreciated by the Egyptian sports authorities.
It should be noted that the issue was seriously taken up by senior members of the Algerian government who got in touch with their Egyptian counterparts as part of sustained efforts aimed at thrashing out a definitive solution to the long-running affair.
Such an endeavour seems to have been crowned with success to the immense relief of Lakhdar Belloumi and his countless fans in Algeria and elsewhere in the world.
