Algerian security services probe within families whose sons are suspected of joining “Daesh”
Echorouk has learnt from reliable sources that the Algerian security services, specialized in the fight against terrorism and organized crime, have launched an in-depth investigation within a number of Algerian families whose sons are suspected of fighting now in the ranks of the so-called “Islamic State” terror group also known as “Daesh” in Iraq and Syria.
Such a terrorist organization is led by the self-proclaimed “Caliph of Muslims” namely Abubakr Al-Baghdadi.
Recent reports spoke of between 400 to 500 Algerians having set off for Iraq, Libya and Syria to join the ranks of “Daesh”.
This is a lower figure compared to those recorded in other Arab countries with around 3000 fighters from Tunisia, 2400 from Libya and 1200 from Morocco reportedly now fighting within the ranks of “Daesh”.
According to the preliminary findings of the security services’ ongoing investigation, seven families residing in the provinces of El Oued (South-eastern Algeria), Oran (Western Algeria) and Algiers have been identified and are suspected of having sons or close relatives now waging combat operations for “Daesh” in Iraq, Syria and Libya.
Sources say that these families who are suspected of being aware of their sons’ allegiance to the “Daesh” terror organization could face legal proceedings on the part of the judicial authorities in Algeria for wittingly concealing their sons’ blameworthy activities under the banner of a terrorist organization abroad.
The same sources added that they could be sued for complicity for failing to report to the relevant authorities their sons’ nefarious terror activities under the cover of a so-called “Djihad” or Holy war.
