Algerian seeds and animal breeds make the US and Australian day
An Algerian expert called on the Algerian authorities to shift their interest to local breeds.

The Algerian agronomist, Abdelagharfi Aissa asserted that Algeria has lost an important part of its seed heritage over the last 20 years, notably some drought –resistant species along with rare animal ones characterized by their adaptability to semiarid areas.

In a declaration to “Echourouk” the agricultural expert added that US agricultural engineers carried out scientific experiments in the 1970s in the “Tassilli” (far south of Algeria) on global warming, which led them to conclude that several parts on earth will witness the similar climate features in the future.

This important finding pushed these experts to bring with them samples of Algerian seeds, which proved their perfect adaptability to extreme weather conditions, and developed them to sow them on the US soil. These seeds are now producing high quality harvests, while Algeria is importing inappropriate seeds, which affected its agricultural outcome.

He went on saying that several Algerian breed of sheep and goats reared in the Algerian desert have been implanted in Australia and the US, where weather conditions are similar to their original natural habitat, and are doing extremely well.

The Algerian expert called on the Algerian authorities to shift their interest to local breeds which proved their efficiency and give up a failed policy that which consists in importing dairy cows from Europe, where the climate is dissimilar to Algeria, which explains their weak performances to be slain after.

By contrast, he talked the importance of developing local breeds such as milk cows and goats.
