Algerian soccer star, Rabah Madjer, appointed environment ambassador

Former Algerian soccer star Rabah Madjer yesterday was anointed by the Environment and tourism minister, Cherif Rahmani here in Algiers as the ambassador for environment of the year 2008.

.High profile personalities attended the ceremony which took place in the nation’s palace in which the minister disclosed an ambitious program for the protection of the environment in Algeria.
The 50 year old FC Porto star, who reached international stardom thanks to his legendary goal, scored with his heel against the German ogre Bayern Munich during the 1987 Champions League Cup, clinching, thus, the first trophy in the history of this club.

 

Even though bound to his several professional duties in Qatar, as a TV consultant, Rabah Madjer couldn’t hide his happiness to be here in Algeria declaring that he was very aware of the slightest details occurring in Algeria.

 

After receiving an honorary certificate from the Algerian minister of environment, Cherif Rahmani, the Algerian golden boy, who is still amazingly in shape despite his age, answered to the journalists’ numerous questions with his usual gentle manner.

 

“I’m extremely happy and honored, it’s a great accomplishment.  I’m here to add my brick to the wall and give my humble contribution to this project and vehicle a message to youth..” the former soccer star said.

 

Replying to one of the journalists’ questions as concerns his participation to an all star game in Tunisia , Rabah Madjer said that he didn’t confirm his presence yet, and all depended on his timetable .
