All About The Upcoming Tunisian Presidential Elections In Algeria

The Tunisian presidential elections will be held next week, and the competition in this important event in the country’s history includes the outgoing president, Kais Saied, who is the most likely to win a second five-year term, in addition to the Secretary-General of the People’s Movement, Zoheir Al-Maghzawi, known for his nationalist Nasserist tendencies, in addition to the head of the Azmoun Movement, businessman Al-Ayachi Zamal, who has social tendencies.
Next Sunday’s elections in the eastern neighbor are the twelfth presidential elections in Tunisia and the third after the revolution, as they are held under the supervision of the Independent High Authority for Elections, which announced in the middle of last month the rejection of 14 out of 17 candidate files for reasons it said were “objective and legal”, most of which relate to “the failure of popular endorsements to meet the legal conditions.”
As for Algeria specifically, the Independent High Authority for Elections decided to open 11 polling stations across Algeria, at the embassy in the capital, the cultural center in Oran, in addition to the Tunisian consulate in Tebessa and Annaba, in addition to opening other polling stations in El Tarf, El Kala, Constantine, Setif, Souk Ahras, the cultural center in Batna and El Oued, and facilitating measures were taken, as the Tunisian voter can perform his duty in any office, and it is not necessary to be registered in the same office.
Outside the technical framework of the electoral process, the balance seems to be tilted in favor of Kais Saied, whose slogan for the next stage is to continue “liberating the country from foreign hegemony and foreign interference in our country in order to control national wealth and liberate minds to achieve sovereignty and combat corruption lobbies that have exhausted the capabilities of the national economy,” as stated in his electoral statement.
On this basis, it is expected that President Saied will continue the reforms he initiated during his first term, politically and economically, which are based on self-reliance, achieving more social justice and reforming public facilities. On the external level, it is expected that Tunisian diplomacy will continue to adopt the same principles it has been known for since independence, with a focus on the issue of national sovereignty and not allowing foreign interference in internal affairs, in addition to supporting just causes in the world, most notably the Palestinian cause.
Tunisia will also continue to support and strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation with sisterly and friendly countries, most notably Algeria, which enjoys a special status, due to history, common neighborhood, intertwined interests, and convergence of positions on the international scene.
