An Imminent Military Coup Against al-Assad

An official source at the opponent Syrian National Council (SNC) revealed that senior military officials in Syria –have not announced defection yet- are intending to orchestrate a coup in coordination with the Syrian Free Army (SFA) to topple the Assad dynasty from power.

The SNC member, Samir Satouf, who spoke to Assia Chalabi of Echorouk said in a phone statement that such information is accurate and that it has been leaked from Damascus.

The source indicated that a coup against Assad regime is imminent, and being prepared silently by some senior military officials, in response to the exaggerating killing machine of al-Assad against the Syrian people. 

“The senior military officials will brush away the Assad dynasty, and pave the way for the transition of the country into a civilian regime,” the member of the SNC said. 

On another side, Mr Setouf said the announcement of the constitution of the Higher Military Council for the Liberation of Syria was done in coordination with the Syrian Free Army, denying, however, the existence of any conflict between the two resistant bodies. 

Meanwhile, the source added that accurate information from Damascus says al-Assad would have ordered his troops to wear anti gas masks, which likely highlight the intention of the regime to perpetuate massacre, noting that al-Assad pro forces have already used internationally banned cuneiform bombs, the opposition said. 

As for the Friends of Syria Conference to be held in Tunis, Samir Satouf said France will suggest the establishment of secured routes to carry humanitarian aids to affected populations in Syria.
