Archaeological sites discovered east of Algeria

The National Gendarmerie of Souk Ahras, east of Algeria, seized Saturday pieces of antiquities that were hidden inside a warehouse in Douare Elmesd, in Skikda, east of Algeria.   

  • The media cell of the national gendarmerie said Sunday, during the presentation of the facts, that information about the smuggling of antiquities reached the cell of combating the smuggling of the cultural properties, belonging to the regional gendarmerie of Souk Ahras, about the existence of pieces of antiquities in a warehouse belonging to “L.A” a farmer in Douar Almesd, in Skikda.
  • When the gendarmes went there Saturday, they found many antiquities inside his warehouse.
  • The farmer said found them when digging a grave. The pieces that were seized are two medium-sized stones, polished stones, broken rock basins, and remnants of broken pieces of pottery, and buried walls of buildings and water tanks as well as other antiquities.
  • Preliminary investigation discovers the presence of an archaeological site, which is a remnant of the Roman-era farm.
  • In a related subject, an equipped cave was discovered in Ain Alkarma, in Mila, east of Algeria, experts suggest its was a Roman-era house.
  • This is the seventh case in combating the smuggling of antiquities and pieces of money in Tebessa, Guelma, Taref, and Annaba, east of Algeria.
