At least 15 million centimes (DA) in compensation for each foot and mouth disease affected cow
The Head of the National Fund for Agricultural Subsidies, Cherif Benhabyles, has announced the handing over of financial compensation to farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease contracted by some of their cattle, not to exceed one week, indicating that each farmer will receive a financial package for the affected cows set at least 15 million centimes (DA) per head.
This is according to the weight, price and age of the cows, and after being inspected by the veterinary expert, knowing that the price of a cow ranges, between 25 to 30 million centimes (DA) today, in the Algerian market.
“We will receive their compensations within a week of being informing by the fund, which has mobilized its offices and agencies across all the provinces of the country, to confront the foot and mouth epidemic, which is currently gnawing at the Algerian cattle”, Mr Benhabyles underscored.
He further underlined that this service is not new, but it is included in the framework of insurance for multiple risks, noting that in 2015, many farmers whose cows were affected by foot-and-mouth were duly compensated by the relevant authorities.
He told “Echorouk” that the latter will get their dues within a period of 15 days, stressing that that his services in close coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and rural development is now striving to prevent the spread of the epidemic, before it inflicts more losses within the farmers’ cattle.
Mr Benhabyles considered that Algerian farmers today are compelled to understand the importance of insurance, especially that the latter do pay only sections ranging between 8,000 and 12 thousand dinars for each cow, and in return, they can offset this amount by dispelling the hovering risks of seeing their livestock being destroyed by the epidemic.
