Baccalaureate results do not make us optimistic, says minister
Algerian education minister Nouria Benghebrit said success rate in baccalaureate exams will be the next school year challenge. “This year result does not make us optimistic.”
“If the primary and junior high school final exam results were good, those of the baccalaureate do not make us optimistic. The big challenge of education sector is to raise success chances in this exam,” the minister told a national radio channel.
“Among the reasons behind week results, there were the schooling conditions in many areas, lack of training among teachers and instability in the educative system,” she added.
Speaking about the national strategy to develop Algeria’s educative system, she said the ministry will support teachers’ training.
She also said 24,000 teachers will be hired by the next school year.
The new teachers will be evaluated between August 15th and August 30th.
Asked about strikes among teachers, she said the next school year will be stable as unions’ claims were met.
“The ministry’s new policy is to involve its social partners,” she added.
