Benkirane Attacks Ban Ki-moon, Tries to Involve Algeria
Head of the Moroccan government, Abdelilah Benkirane

Head of the Moroccan government, Abdelilah Benkirane, alleged that the last visit of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, to the region, and his statements about Western Sahara file, which is the point of dispute with the Polisario Front, ” is affecting the credibility of the international organization”.

It seems that the Moroccan regime did not find a way to respond to United Nations that was fair with the Sahrawis, and acknowledged their right to self-determination, but to bring the people to the streets of Rabat and Casablanca to protest against Ban Ki-moon, as its remains countering that number of participants comically until it settled at the figure of “three million participants”, as he claimed.

Benkirane had a speech in front of the Moroccan parliament, in the first special session that was held at the request of members of the House of Representatives (first room) and “The House of Councillors”, on Friday, and he considered that Morocco is living a state of war, and devoted the meeting to developments in the Sahara issue, saying that the visit of Ban Ki-moon and his statements, will push his country to “take what is dictated by the strategic interests”, first and foremost what he called “the national unity and territorial integrity”, which is a confession of Morocco’s colonial tendency, noting that it was unable to free the cities of Ceuta and Melilla since centuries ago from the Spanish colonization.

Benkirane said, “Ban Ki-moon’s visit and interspersed statements and expressions, effected the rights of Morocco and the feelings of Moroccans, and the credibility of the United Nations itself, due to the dangerous move away from the terms of reference of the UN organization, and its obligations and traditions.”

“The UN official exceeded the goals that were set for this visit, and went on to the point of using of the word occupation, to describe Morocco’s retrieval of its southern provinces”, which is a description of the Moroccan occupation on “Western Sahara”.

“This is a precedent in the United Nations dictionary, that is not based on any political or legal basis. Morocco noted with amazement, that Ki-moon, surrendered to the blackmail of the other parties, by imposing a fait accompli, in an explicit breach of the commitments and guarantees that were provided to the Moroccan Kingdom, and he allowed to be exploited to lend credibility to the false allegations that were made by other parties”, the leader of Islamistes meant with “Algeria”.

Morocco is trying to involve Algeria in the Western Sahara issue, and in which the United Nations has decided, in the words of Ban Ki-moon, that the issue is bilateral between Morocco and the Polisario Front only.

He also asserted: “Insistance on pressurizing opponents’ pointers, and trying to drag the file to discuss solutions does not preserve the territorial integrity of Morocco, but will push our country to take what is dictated by the strategic interests”, and if he did not reveal the ways of confrontation, both against Algeria, which he classified as a rival, or against the United Nations, but the Moroccan authorities, only find the call upon a “handful” number of Moroccan citizens, who took to the streets, on Sunday, and criticized Ban Ki-moon statements, as the authorities tried to inflate the protest and categorize it as a “mass” protest, claiming that it included 3 million protesters.
