CIA report to the White House: “Morocco gears up for an impending war against Algeria”

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has warned in a report submitted to the White House against Morocco's armaments race following the conflicts opposing Rabat with Algeria and Spain about the vexed western Sahara issue.

• The CIA forecasts a looming Moroccan military onslaught on the Polisario Front with the aim of “choking off” its self-determination request.

• The CIA report says that the Moroccan armed forces have been put on full alert in southern Morocco in order to be ready for a major military attack on the Polisario Front at any moment.

• According to the CIA report, the Moroccan armed forces are even ready to track down the Polisario Front fighters on sovereign Algerian territory itself, a move which could touch off an open conflict between Morocco and Algeria, military observers say.

• Morocco has purchased of late a  very large quantity of armaments including jet fighters, tanks and armoured personnel carriers worth hundreds of million of dollars in order to beef up its military arsenal.
