Colonel Mesmari: we are not afraid of western threats and we will not withdraw from oil crescent

The Libyan army led by Khelifa Haftar Wednesday handed over ports and oil fields to Libya’s oil company based in Tripoli. Oil facility guards of Haftar’s army will continue guarding them.

Colonel Ahmed Mesmari, a spokesman for the Libyan army told Echorouk oil fields and port have become under control without any fight.

“A light clash took place in Zuwaytania without any damage. Misled young people withdrew from battles. Forces safely entered Al-Sidra and Brega with the help of residents,” he added.

Speaking about the Western position, he said “the West does not want good things to happen in Libya. Their call for an immediate withdraw will not be respected. The Arab Spring truth and the conspiracy against Libya is now unveiled.”

“The army forces do not accept any threats. The West wanted the national oil company to have control over fields. The army is just keeping watch on them,” he added.

The spokesman hailed Libyan tribes role in oil crescent area as they stood by the army side. Thanks to their help, no human losses were reported. 

“The Libyan State planned this operation to recover its properties from a gang which took control of them and cost hundreds if billions damages,” he said.

Speaking about possible coordination with Mesrata’s forces, Mesmari said the operation was military and there was no coordination with any one.

“The army only coordinates with the armed forces higher commander represented in Parliament’s speaker Salah Akila,” he added.
