Education: Threatened strike actions by Unions put Benghebrit in the eye of hurricane
Echorouk has learnt from well-informed sources that that the Premiership has sternly advised the national education minister Nouria Benghebrit not to fuel the current tension between her department and the education unions in order not to jeopardize the second part of the school year owing to the hovering strike actions.
The unions have set up a so-called “Union Pole” made up of nine education unions with the aim of pressurizing the education ministry into seriously addressing the education workers’ outstanding socio-professional claims.
The premiership has thus enjoined Mrs Nouria Benghebrit to use a conciliatory approach in dealing with the Unions’ demands in order to salvage the rest of the school year from further strike-related turmoil.
Teachers will receive a promotion from next year and recruitment will be done in a normal way in 2015, said of late Nouria Benghebrit in a bid to defuse the current tensions with the protesting education unions.
The Minister of National Education, Nouria Benghebrit, pledged that the year 2015 will see the promotion of most teachers and education personnel?
“Those who have completed training willsecure positions of work for the next school year and new grades and recognition for their professionalism”, she assured.
To reassure even more, the Minister affirmed that the teachers’ recruitment competition will take place as planned next March, knowing that the needs of the sector is approximately 7,000 teachers and professors all cycles combined.
She dispelled the rumours of reductions, spawned by recent calls by the Government, for the freezing of recruitment in the public service sector in 2015. «The Prime Minister ruled out strategic sectors from such a decision, like the education sector, she noted.
The Minister argued that there will be no change in 2015. She noted moreover that her ministerial Department, which is about to complete a study by a group of experts in education and pedagogy, will proceed with the implementation of some measures for the school year 2016/2017, including relief programs, with significant changes for increased academic performance.
Mrs Nouria Benghebrit also promised that all pending administrative cases will be settled in a gradual way in close concertation with the education unions as part of a frank and tangible dialogue beyond any confrontation or recrimination.
She further stressed the need for drafting an ethics and deontology charter which will represent the daily working guide for the entire national education corporation.
