Education workers representatives’ elections.
60% of participation and opposition would not the destiny change. Candidatures for the elections of representatives of the Social Committees of the education sector’s workers were closed last Wednesday November 23rd 2011 across all the Algerian territory.
The operations saw the participation of 60 percent of the workers while the opposition said boycott was high for this operation as ‘’there were few people backing the national and regional management of the social committees funds’’ as they put it. Opposition is working on decentralizing the management of education social committees’ funds and rather wants it to be worked at school-end levels.
In this regard, Sadek Dziri, the Chairman of the National Union of Education Workers told Echorouk that ‘’Large numbers of the sector’s workers joined the operation and we are at the sensitization and mobilization stages to go for the next step which is the elections scheduled for next December 07th ’’ Mr; Dziri further told Echorouk that “There are some institutions that boycotted because the candidates did not meet conditions requested by employees.
On the other hand, said, Farhat Chabekh, a leader in the Algerian Education Workers’ Federation, which backs with four other trade unions the principle of managing locally funds affiliated to the Education Social Committees said that after the end of the candidatures, “We recorded a lack of candidatures as very few professors, teachers, and workers expressed their will to race for the upcoming elections and have thus shown their reluctance to be represented by people they do not know and so decided to boycott’’
