Egypt parliament plans joint session

Legislators asked by ruling military council to draw up a list of 100 people who will draft a new constitution.

Egypt’s newly elected parliament is planning to sit in a joint session for the first time. 
 
Its first task is to appoint a constitutional committee. 
 
The ruling military council has asked parliament to draw up a list of 100 people who will draft a new constitution.

Mike Hannah, our correspondent in Cairo said: “This gathering has been called for by the ruling military supreme council, normally it would be addressed by the sitting president, but the presidential elections is still to take place.

“In the void of executive power, it is the military that will continue to rule and the big question over the next days during the sitting is what influence will the military seek in the drawing of the constitution.”
