Egyptian fans: “ We want three… Egypt in the World Cup and bye Algeria”

The tiny stadium of Aswan, southern Egypt, was filled with the Egyptian fans that flocked on Thursday to support their squad versus Tanzania in a friendly pending the crucial match versus the Algerian side.

  • Though the capacity of the stadium cannot exceed 10 thousands people, scores of fans rushed in early in the morning queuing up in the hope to snatch a ticket to see the match.
  • Cheap tickets and too many security elements
  • Though the price of the tickets for the friendly was extremely low (3 Egyptian pounds), the majority of the fans ere outraged because access to the stadium was not free. Echourok’s delegation has noticed that half of the fans were security elements either in official dresses or civil ones.
  • Women were present… pressure not
  • Braving traditions and habits, since the region of Aswan is known as being a conservative one, women decided to attend the friendly match despite several calls launched by some officials and media professionals who asked them to stay at home because the Egyptian squad needed male voices in the bleachers to exhort pressure and impress the Algerian squad during the match on November 14.
  • But the stratagem is most likely to fail and it seems that the Egyptian squad is not the Algerian match though the atmosphere in Cairo stadium is completely different from that of Aswan because 80 thousands fans are set to stand as won behind their team next week.
  • Algeria is haunting the fans in Aswan
  • The spectre of Algeria was hovering over the heads of thousands of fans during the match between Egypt and Tanzania. Very early in the morning many were chanting slogans glorifying their squad and the world “Algeria” was the common denominator among millions of Egyptians.
  • Echourok’s journalists have noticed while they were walking in the streets of Aswan, that the Egyptians didn’t forget the outcome of the away match and pledged to trounce the Algerian squad on November 14 and secure their qualification to the South African World Cup.
  • Depression and shocks in case of failure to reach the World Cup
  • Many Egyptians grew delirious in their declarations to an extent that some of them indicated that they will trounce the Algerian squad by four or five goals. The editor in chief of the online newspaper “Korabia” has declared that all the Egyptians are optimistic as to the qualification of their squad and a setback against Algeria will provoke a tremendous choc among the population.
  • Talking around a dinner table at the end of the match versus Tanzania, Walid has revealed to us that the Egyptian street will not accept a disqualification and called on the Egyptian decision makers to prepare the public opinion to accept a defeat in order to avoid depression , according to him.
