El-Djeich Magazine: “Our National Memory and Glorious History, With Immortal Symbols and Illuminating Milestones, a Red Line”
In its editorial for the December issue, published Monday, December 8, El-Djeich (army) magazine stated that preserving the most precious legacy left by our ancestors necessitates “an eternal connection to our glorious history and our authentic memory, which is the pulse of our nation, the artery that nourishes its present and builds its future, and the guiding light for successive generations as they forge paths toward building a strong, secure, and prosperous homeland, inspired by the rich values of our illustrious forefathers, values imbued with the highest meanings of loyalty and devotion, and replete with heroism and immense sacrifices.”
In its editorial titled “Our History Is More Noble Than Their Misrepresentations,” the magazine wrote, “At a time when we are most in need of it, some arrogant and pretentious individuals appear from time to time, falsely claiming to have mastered the intricacies of history and geography, deliberately and maliciously attacking our glorious history and our national symbols. Some, in their ignorance of the plots being hatched against our country, mistake this for freedom of expression and opinion.”
The magazine noted, “Differences of opinion can be beneficial, provided they are well-founded and within the framework of our beloved nation’s higher interests, our established principles and values, our history, our collective memory, our constants, and our sacred beliefs—within a framework that unites us, not divides us.”
The magazine warned that “falsifying and questioning memory, history, identity, references, and symbols under the pretext of freedom of expression is a worse excuse than the crime itself, and a blatant attack on our glorious past, a past forged by men who sacrificed everything precious so that we might live free and sovereign on our blessed land.”
As the magazine stated in its editorial, “Algeria’s history is replete with immortal milestones that forged our nation’s pride and dignity. These chapters were written by patriotic and loyal men and women who preserved its glory and prestige, offering their most precious possessions for the sake of the homeland. Throughout this long and eventful journey, Algeria, in every era of its rich history, preserves the names of heroes who made immense sacrifices, setting the finest examples of courage, selflessness, and devotion, especially during the period of brutal occupation that attempted to obliterate our national identity and our cultural and civilizational foundations.”
The same magazine explained that Algeria witnessed “resistance after resistance to reclaim its usurped land and stolen freedom, and in defence of these fundamental principles, and through the accumulation of these popular uprisings, resistances, and steadfastness, the National Liberation Army emerged from the heart of the Algerian people. It waged a great revolution, as great as its aim and as noble as its goal: liberation from the shackles of slavery, tyranny, and humiliation. It was a revolution in which all honourable people rallied around the project of restoring sovereignty and building an independent Algeria.”
The magazine affirmed in its editorial that “independent Algeria will forever remain bound to the glorious values of November and the noble character of its men, who will remain immortal in the memory of our nation and of successive generations throughout the ages, a crown upon our heads, their names etched in the annals of our history, which will remain greater than all the doubters, detractors, and falsifiers of the truth.”
El-Djeich magazine emphasised that “our history is not merely tales told by storytellers in the marketplace to collect a handful of dinars, or riddles grandmothers tell their grandchildren before bedtime, or a commodity bought in the markets by merchants concerned only with their profits, as some do today. Rather, our history is a luminous and enduring series of events that forged our nation’s glory and eternal pride. Only those qualified to do so should delve into it, and it should not be recounted by just anyone according to whims, desires, and ill intentions.”
The Army magazine affirmed in its editorial that “our national memory and our glorious history with its immortal symbols and bright milestones is a red line that does not accept any compromise, belittling, or attempt to distort, falsify, or question it. It is the safety valve of the homeland, and defending its borders is an existential issue, a sacred duty, and a national responsibility stemming from the loyalty of subsequent generations to previous generations.”
