First Algerian and Arab woman to run for President announces official candidacy

General Secretary of the Labour Party, Louiza Hanoune announced Friday her official candidacy for the next April elections under the banner of “Popular Sovereignty protects the National sovereignty”. The party’s electoral program focuses on combating the liberal thought and works on protecting the national resources as well reviewing all the international agreements which obliged Algeria sign when it was living a fierce international isolation for more than two decades.

  • Louiza Hanoune is the first Algerian and Arab woman to run for president. “My party members elected me to insist on the democratic rights and respect for fundamental freedoms as well as electing a constituent assembly able to bring a radical change in politics and economy at the top of the pyramid, and in order to realize immediate and final end of privatization, then save our youngsters by creating real job opportunities. We have then to break our relations with policies responsible for disintegration and exacerbation of social differences among the Algerians. My party includes no new wealthiest who have stolen Algerian rescources,” Louiza Hanoune said in a public meeting with 48 representatives and large crowd.

  • “Decision was taken by the central committee of the Labour Party stems from confidence of more than 141.000 Algerians, who gave me their free and transparent signatures without being subjected to pressure or electoral illusory promises. My decision to run for president of Algeria also stemmed from my party’s desire to strengthen the popular sovereignty which protects the national sovereignty,” she added.
