Former Egyptian FM aide to Echourouk: Morsi will be the future president

Abdellah Mechaal, a fomer Egyptian FM aide and law teacher at the US University of Cairo has dwelt in a lengthy interview with Echourouk on several issues pertaining to the Egyptian presidential elections and the future prospect of January’s revolution.

• Expressing himself on the resurgence of the protests at Tahrir square recently, the former presidential candidate has asserted that the Egyptians were disillusioned by the military council and felt that their revolution was confiscated by the remnants of the old regime personified by Ahmed Chafik.

• He further added that Chafik should be isolated according to the law in force, but unfortunately the man is supported by the administration and the military institution alike. His presence I the second round of the elections would lead to a bitter dissention between the Muslim and Christian communities, though logically religion shouldn’t interfere in politics. Chafik echoes the past while Morsi represents the future.

• Dwelling on the reasons that pushed him to withdraw from the presidential race, Mechaal has indicated that he suggested to the other candidates to support one of them only but they didn’t take into consideration my idea.

• Unfortunately, I have noticed that all the candidates entered the race just to give a blow to the Muslim Brotherhood, including Abu Al Foutouh and Essabahi. In the light of these new elements, I found it necessary to strengthen the Brotherhood’s wing which I believe is more homogeneous.

• Mechaal went on saying that the million voters who were supposed to support his candidacy backed Morsi’s one, they have to strike back against the media campaign that mired the reputation of the Muslim Brotherhood.

• To sum up, they have to choose whether retrieve Egypt for its people or let it in the hands of the US and Israel?
