Mohamed the Sixth, Morocco's King

Former agent in the Moroccan intelligence Farid Boukas talks to Echorouk about his mobilization in the territory surveillance department (internal intelligence) after he had been a journalist. He mentioned his missions and the pressure put by Makhzen on its opponents. He also made remarks about Mouhcine Fikri, a fisherman who was killed inside a garbage truck.

What was your occupation before leaving Morocco?

I was a journalist. Journalism had been my passion since my childhood. I started working at Tangier Radio then I became a correspondent of a national weekly newspaper. Later, I was appointed as a financial and commercial director and a partner in the same newspaper. In 2002, I signed a work contract with the regional director of the national territory surveillance department Abdelkader Bouili. It was a contract with undetermined duration. This is how I entered the Moroccan intelligence world.

In 2002, I was assigned to follow the issue of Mustapha Merabet who was the head of Moroccan workers and immigrants’ association based in Madrid. It has more than 20 subsidies in Spain and one in Rabat. It was created by Mohamed Bejougui who comes from northern Morocco. At that time, he was known for smuggling drugs.

He quitted Morocco and smuggled millions of dollars. He laundered the money by establishing the association.

Investigations showed that Mustapha Merabet was not the target man but Mohamed Bajougui because there were personal accounts between this man and my boss Abdelkader Bouili.

How did Makhzen put pressure on you and opposition activists?

The Moroccan Makhzen uses terrorism as a security issue to achieve its goals. He did that with Spain. Each time, I submitted a request at the immigration office, I got a negative reply. When I asked why, they told me they received instructions from Madrid. Furthermore, I was not allowed to renew my Moroccan passport. The Moroccan general consul Mohamed Barada said he received instructions from Rabat. We must not forget that geographic rapprochement between Spain and Morocco makes spying easier on Spain.

Regarding the death of Mouhcine Fikri, is there any repercussion? Who will pay the price?

It is not the first incident. Earlier, Mi Fatiha was a candy seller in Kenitra in Morocco. Her goods were confiscated by Makhzen. Her end was tragic. This shows that Makhzen hates the Moroccan simple and poor people. Those events unveil the reality of this corrupt system. Yet, it goes through a difficult period. King Mohamed the Sixth calls his interior minister four times per day.

The Moroccan regime will pay the price this time. People are liberated from slavery and have become smart.

People get lessons from such events. Because of that, I call on the Moroccan people to continue fighting. There are attempts to hide the truth by putting pressure on witnesses and tempting them by money. There are other attempts to accuse innocent people.
