French Parliament Confirms Appointment Of A New Ambassador To Algeria

Parliamentary accountability of the French National Assembly revealed on an imminent change in the French Embassy to Algeria, through the appointment of a new ambassador of Paris, in a diplomatic movement that will include the ambassadors of Paris to seven of the most important capitals of the world, like Washington, Berlin, Moscow, Beijing, and Cairo, and wondered about this change in this circumstance in particular that precedes the Presidential Elections of next May, which means that Algeria will be again in the heart of the conflict for the Elysee Palace.

A written accountability of the French Deputy, Bruno Le Maire, contains a question about the Republicans, dated, February,21, 2016, to the Foreign and International Cooperation Minister, that the PM Le Maire draw the attention of the foreign minister to the important movement in the French ambassadors abroad that is currently underway.

French MP explained that the government already decided to appoint new ambassadors in a number of key diplomatic missions in Algiers, Berlin, Washington, Beijing, Moscow, Cairo and Tokyo.

He considered that a change of this kind, among the French ambassadors in Algeria and other countries would have a long-term impact on French foreign policy.

“Under the unstable international situation, three is a desire to change the key ambassadors of France abroad, a few weeks from the presidential elections”, in which President Hollande will not run, which looks like a surprising move.

Same accountability asked the French Foreign Minister to provide a thorough explanation of these decisions that are taken in this particular time that precedes the presidential elections.

Previously, on last week there were news about the determination of the Paris to appoint a new ambassador to Algeria, represented in the person of Xavier Driencourt, who held the same position between 2008 and 2012, and who is the current General-Secretary of the French Foreign Ministry “Quai dOrsay”, replacing Bernard Emié who was appointed two and a half years ago.

There has been so far no response from the French party, neither to confirm nor to deny these reports, as is the case for the Algerian Party, but the confirmation of the French Parliament on this change through an official document, means that it has become almost certain that Paris would appoint a new ambassador in Algeria , regardless of Driancourr’s return to his former post or not.

French MP, Bruno Le Maire tried to mention that there is a movement of employment of the Government of the French left (Socialist Party), in the file of diplomatic movement in the most important capitals for Paris across the world, in the next French presidential elections, especially since they will be done in two months.
