French Parliament withdrew amendments to articles in equality and nationality law presented for discussion and approval. Those amendments were supposed to stipulate equality between Algerian and European employees and end discrimination against Algerians in French public service.

According to a final report, major amendments regarding Algerian workers’ situation in France were withdrawn.

Those amendments had been presented to allow Algerian employees who hold senior position to be treated in the same way as any other European employee with the same position.

The amendments had also aimed at dropping nationality from requirements in job contracts.

Earlier, French members of Parliament presented a proposition to grant French nationality to Algerians born before January 1st, 1963 of Algerian father and mother. Yet, the proposition was dropped.
