Gaid Salah: “I Won’t Tolerate The Targeting Of Demonstrators”

On Thursday November 14th, the Ministry of National Defense released a video-recording of Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah, the Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army (ANP), stressing that he will not tolerate targeting the people during the demonstrations.

The video referred to statements made by Lieutenant General Gaid Salah during previous field visits when he underlined: “I will not give an order to the Army to beat up the people. I am at the heart of this people. During the national liberation revolution, I was with the people and I’ve stayed with them. In the period of the terrorism scourge, I also recommended anti-terrorist combat units. I always said: beware of being wrong with the people.”

In another speech, the chief of staff of the National People’s Army stated: “We will not let the country tumble down and be destroyed.”
