The head of the Security Committee of Ghadames on the Algerian-Libyan border, Bachir Shihab, fears that his troops could not cope with a large number of terrorists that plague the region, while recognizing its stability up to now.

In a statement to “Echorouk”, Mr Bachir Shihab affirmed that Libyan security officials confirmed that the region is now stable and under control by the security services.

“However, there is frequent movement of smugglers and illegal migrants seeking to cross the Algerian-Libyan border”, he explained.

But our interlocutor does not preclude the possibility of subsequent adverse developments that might affect this region’s stability by the massive influx of terrorists, stressing that his combat groups will respond in coordination with the tactical support from the more seasoned Algerian People’s Army (ANP) deployed on the other side of the common border, because, according to him, his security committee is not a regular Army but is only made up of armed factions with very limited means.

Moreover, in the fight against the scourges of terrorism and organized crime in all their forms, an ANP detachment succeeded in  neutralizing in Illizi area, near the Libyan border, an armed terrorist and retrieving three sniper rifles and a batch of mobile phones, while in the 2nd Military Region, two other terrorists surrendered to Algerian security forces with their weaponry.

On the other hand, Tunisian security forces have put out of action 10 terrorists, including eight Moroccans and two Algerians who tried to cross the Algerian-Tunisian border.
