Government did best efforts to free the abducted diplomats
Government used the word “assassins” in a telegram of condolence that was sent to the family of Algerian abducted diplomats, which prompted observers to wonder about whether the death of the consul, Boualem Sais, may have been a natural death or whether he was victim of a coward assassination, or if the detention of the consul for 28 months, until he suffered a chronic illness, was considered an assassination?
Second telegram to APS, which reported the Foreign Affairs’ Ministry statement about the Liberation of the remaining hostages, had talked about the natural death of the former consul in the Malian city Gao, saying that it was due to a “chronic illness”, but the third telegram, used the phrase “diplomats assassins”, which contributed in fueling doubts.
Statement of condolence said: “In these dire circumstances, the Algerian government renewed its sincere condolences to the families of the assassinated diplomats and confirms its full support for them, and bow down before the martyrs of duty, and praised their efforts in the performance of their duty for the service of the nation.”
“Throughout the period of detention, Algerian authorities did not hide any effort for the release of our diplomats unconditionally, and to respect the dogmatic position for our country, and its international obligations by refusing to pay ransoms, in reference to the recommendation of the Security Council, which criminalizes the payment of ransom to kidnappers, and that was proposed by the Algerian authorities”.
“Thanks to good wills, Algeria reached the release of hostages”, in an implicit reference to the presence of mediation that have contributed to the release of hostages, but it did not elaborate on the identity of these meditations, which are believed to be Azawad, because they coincide with the start of the second round of negotiations between the Azawad factions, and the central government in Bamako”.
Boualeme Sais is Algeria’s former consul in “Gao”, which is located in the northeast of Mali. He is a former officer in the army. He Has been entrusted with the task of managing the Consulate, that is considered one of the most sensitive diplomatic posts, because of the volatile security situation in northern Mali, which was marked by the control of Touareg rebels and Arab Barabiche, on the Azawad territory, at a time when the Malian state was at the mercy of a military coup, that was led by a military colonel, it has been rumored during the process of kidnapping, the case of a deterioration of the detention of the hostages, not only on the consul Boualem Sais, who was suffering from diabetes.
