Tunisian defence minister Ferhat Harchani washed hands of statements reported by Saudi Middle-East newspaper. He was quoted saying terrorism in his country comes from borders zone with Algeria.

Tunisian Parliament’s vice-speaker Abdelfatah Mourou Monday said a meeting between the minister and parliamentaries’ representatives.

“We asked the minister about his remarks at the Middle East newspaper, he said they were falsified and he will issue an erratum,” he told Echorouk on the phone.

The minister told Parliament the Middle East newspaper put an inappropriate headline with his remarks. “I did not mean Algeria. I did not hold Algeria responsible for terrorism.”

He denied any tension between the two countries, saying there is daily coordination between military commanders in Algeria and Tunisia.

“Relation between Tunisia and Algeria are historic and no one can offend it,” he added.

Speaking about the remarks, the Tunisian head of government Hamadi Djbaili said those kind of allegations can hit Tunisia’s relations with Algeria.

“It is impossible to accuse Algeria of exporting terrorism. I had said we had no problem,” he said.
