Hamrouche warns against Libya and Syria’s scenario in Algeria
Algeria’s former head of government Mouloud Hamrouche Thursday warned against a possible social explosion in Algeria like what happened in Libya and Syria. He advised the current regime to get dismantled to avoid more “corruption which paralyzed all the sectors.”
“What is power is not a cabinet but a group of ministers. It is not a national popular assembly but a group of members of Parliament. Still, there is a hope in making a change by rehabilitating the State and its institutions,” Hamrouche told a political conference in the province of Constantine (east of Algeria).
He added that an official described corruption as an “ordinary fact” which is seen in all over the world.
“This is serious because authorities are about to use corruption to run power. Because of that, the State’s systems including security forces and justice are not able to face corruption. The latter is considered as one of decline indicators,” he said.
Hamrouche kept saying he does not want free fall for the regime because it would prevent Algeria from building power once again.
He believes that the army is the only institution which has legitimacy and managed by people who are always changed. “Building a modern state needs cooperation from everyone including the new generation,” he said.
