Hans Blix Discusses  Nuclear File With Algerian President Bouteflika
Hans Blix, former director general of the UN nuclear watchdog

Former UN inspector of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq said Sunday Algeria has played a great role to stop proliferation of nuclear arms.

Blix said in a press statement after a meeting with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika that Algiers played an important role to prevent proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Blix, who was a former director general of the UN nuclear watchdog, said they have discussed the use of nuclear energy in genering electricity, and how to use the nuclear energy for peaceful means
 
 
Hans Blix was received yesterday by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika accompanied by his group of international experts on weapons of mass destruction. The former chief inspector in Iraq made what observers called a surprise visit to Algeria and had discussions with Bouteflika upon his request as reported.
 
The meeting with Bouteflika was attended by Energy Minister, Mr. Chakib Khalil and Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Mourad Medelci.
 
 
Arab media circulated very recently that  mentioning that talks on the transfer of nuclear energy for peaceful reasons was high on the agenda during the latest talks held between Bouteflika and Sarkozy when the latter visited Algiers.
 
Blix is one of the greatest diplomats and UN figures that opposed the invasion of Iraq in 2003 by the United States , as he headed a delegation of inspectors to investigate in Iraq ‘s possession of weapons of mass destruction. Blix is a Swedish diplomat and opposed threatening policies pursued by the United States against Iran on the nuclear file.
