Hassi Messaoud: 420 Employees At A US Company Start Hunger Strike
As many as 420 employees at a US company operating at the oil city of Hassi Messaoud, southern Algeria, have started hungry strike to protest against their deteriorating working conditions and claim wage hikes.
The hunger-strikers have been eaten some bread and water to resist the hot weather, causing health troubles to those suffering chronicle illnesses.
The employees have preferred not interrupting their work, as they worked normally with their excavators. Yet, they rejected eating dishes prepared in the company’s restaurant, causing, thus, considerable loss to the company.
Representatives of the protesters told Echorouk reporter in Hassi Messaoud that the hunger strike is maintained until their claims are met.
In fact, they claim their contracts to be extended for longer than 3 months term, and their “low” wages to be increased, regarding their hard working conditions.
