Head of Algerian delegation apprises “Echorouk” of details of Syria visit

He also strongly denied having used these chemical weapons against the Syrian population in any parts of Syria as purported by some “malevolent” quarters in an attempt to discredit his regime in the international arena .

Syrian President Bashar Al Assad has declared to an Algerian delegation on a visit to Damascus that he has decided to relinquish the country’s chemical weapons stockpile in order to spare the whole region a widespread devastating blow.

Bashar Al Assad further argued that he was the target of schemings hatched against him and his government by the United States and Israel backed covertly by Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, as he put it.

The beleaguered Syrian President made such assertions when receiving recently in the capital Damascus an Algerian delegation representing the national committee for the support of Syria’s steadfastness headed by Mr Djamel Eddine Abdul Salam.

In a statement to Echorouk, at the end of this visit to Syria, Abdul Salam told Echorouk that in the words of the Syrian President, Syria is now the target of a foreign plot fomented by Israel and its allies aimed at dismembering the country and paving the way for the setting up of a “puppet regime” in Damascus, subservient to Tel Aviv and to some hegemonic western countries.

He quoted the Syrian leader as saying that these hostile countries are using hypocritically the nondescript and manipulated insurgents to stoke the war and therefore to undermine Syria’s standing on the world scene and to smash its priceless achievements in all fields of endeavour.

He also pointed an accusing finger at certain foreign media – channels, accusing them of receiving funds from shadowy circles behind the scenes, with the aim of wittingly distorting the true situation prevailing in Syria itself.
