Negotiations between the Ministry of national education and the independent National Union of educational workers have against fizzled out with the ministerial department rejecting the “Cnapeste” Union’s demands as “illegal” and “unacceptable”.

As a result of this new logjam in the negotiations, the “Cnapeste” union has decided to call for a continuation of the teachers’ open-ended strike for the fourth straight week in order to exert more leverage on the authorities concerned.

The Ministry of education balked at the union’s claims and maintained its position and dubbed the “Cnapeste” demands as “illegal” contrary to Article 107 of the law n° 06/03, related to the professional scheme regulating the sector of public service servants.

A “Cnapeste” representative however told “Echorouk” that the independent union will stick to its demands, stressing that the education ministry is compelled to respond favourably to the workers’ legitimate rights.
