International network of arms’ traffickers dismantled in Algeria

The National Gendarmerie services of the locality of Setif (250 km east of Algiers ) have dismantled a network specialized in arms and ammunitions’ trafficking.

According to the investigations, this gang was dealing in drug, arms as well as ammunitions and was spreading its tentacles aver the country’s borders. The members of the network were brought before the Attorney while one of them is still on the run.

During the operation, elements of the national gendarmerie seized 09 automatic guns and 03 grenades.

The investigations carried out by the national gendarmerie, revealed that this network was operating in the Algerian eastern towns with a close connection with other networks in the Libyan borders, which was supplying Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb with arms brought from Egypt.

Following the information given by the arrested traffickers,  the national gendarmerie extended its investigation to the border town of Barika , Batna (far east of Algeria )  considered as the stronghold of workshops of hand –made arms.

According to well informed sources, this group was not supplying arms to Al of the North African branch exclusively, but dealing with other “clients” regardless of their drives. What really matters for them was money.
