Iranian President’s envoy to Algeria: “Saudi-led military onslaught in Yemen is a strategic blunder and we rely on Algeria to stop it”
Iranian First Deputy Foreign Minister and Iranian President’s special envoy to Algeria, Morteza Sarmadi, has dubbed the Saudi-led military “Operation Storm” in Yemen as a strategic error and expressed the wish to see Algeria engage in a possible mediation role aimed at halting this military onslaught.
He said that that given its recognized standing as an honest broker, Algeria could play a positive mediation role in helping solve the Yemeni crisis and securing an end to the current Saudi-led military campaign against the Houthis in Yemen in order to spare the Yemeni people further victims, chaos and turmoil.
Mr Sarmadi also affirmed that the crisis in Yemen is one of the problems in the Muslim world and stressed, “The stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran with regard to all countries including Yemen is opposition to foreign intervention. Therefore, from our point of view, the solution to the crisis in Yemen is also the halt of foreign intervention and attacks against the people of this country.”
The Iranian official further referred to developments in Iraq and Syria and violent acts of terrorist groups in these countries, adding that those who fail to see the role of the Zionist enemy and its allies in the crises in these countries have deceived themselves.
The visiting Iranian official Mr Morteza Sarmadi conferred on Monday in Algiers with the minister delegate in charge of Maghrebian and African affairs Abdelkader Messahel on ways of further boosting Algerian-Iranian relations and on various topical issues of common concern including the situation in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Palestine in addition to the positive breakthrough achieved in the long-running Iranian nuclear file at the end of the successful negotiations between Iran and major world powers in Switzerland.
