Islamic Centre Director: Suicide attacks in Algeria are absurd and against Islam

Suicide attacks in Algeria are absurd, unreasonable and illogic as they are not based on a religious justification, according to director of the Islamic Centre of Geneva (CIG).
“The suicide attacks in Algeria which are claimed by the so-called Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb offend Islam because they are against its principles,” Doctor Hani Ramadan told Echorouk.
He stressed the necessity of making the difference between terrorism and resistance and indicated that the situation in Algeria is different from the ones in Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and Chechen.
“What is happening in Algeria is suicide because legitimate defence must be carried out if there are attackers but that is not the case in Algeria,” he said.
Doctor Hani Ramadan who gave a lecture on Saturday in Nouakchott talked about Islam and violence.
He started his lecture by saying the attacks which targeted civilians and innocents in the United States of America, Africa and some European cities are not acceptable and against Islam’s principles.
On the other hand, Hani Ramadan considered what is happening in Iraq, Palestine and Chechen is a “resistance against occupier of Muslims.”
“Colonialism is the utmost violence,” he said referring to what is happening in Palestine which he described as “state terrorism.”
“Israel is exercising violence and terrorism against Palestinians. Because of that, martyrdom operations in this occupied country represent resistance and legal self-defence.”
He added that those operations must follow rules to not be turned into illegal suicide attacks. “Especially those Westerners will seize that to justify their occupation.”
“There is a need to determine concepts and attempts to distort must be noted,” he said.
