JS Kabylie 1 – Al Ismaily 0 : “JS Kabylie rules the roost in African Champions' League”
The Algerian first-division side of JS Kabylie maintained their unbeaten run in this year's African Champions League football contest with a meritorious 1-0 win over visiting Egypt's Ismaily squad on Friday night in a packed Tizi Ouzou stadium.
-
Nigerian import Izu Azuka’s beautiful goal four minutes from time settled the tie as the Algerians won again with flying colours in Tizi Ouzou in front of their countless exuberent fans.
-
-
The result effectively killed off any lingering hopes the Egyptian side Al Ismaily had of reaching the semi-finals.
-
-
But it handed a massive boost to another Egyptian outfit Al Ahly who play against Nigeria’s Heartland on Sunday in the same group.
-
-
If the Red Devils of Cairo beat their Nigerian visitors, they will claim the other semi-final place from Group B.
-
-
Although Ahly are likely to survive the group-stage cull, their difficult-to-please supporters are calling for the head of coach Hossam al-Badry after being held by a valiant JS Kabylie two weeks ago in Cairo.
-
-
Al-Badry must do without former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Hossam Ghaly, serving a four-match ban for being sent off in the away loss to Algerian squad of JS Kabylie, but should prove too strong for goal-shy 2009 runners-up Heartland.
-
-
JS Kabylie are now well on top of the standings of their group with a total of 13 points with 4 victories and a draw. They are already through to the semi-finals of this prestigious African football competition.
