Libya: Tribes demand the release of Saif al-Islam Kaddafi
A delegation of tribesmen from eastern Libya was formed to demand the release of the detained son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Kaddafi.
In fact, this delegation headed towards the town of Zintan, where Saif Al Islam has been imprisoned since 2011 after the overthrow of his father, as a result of the Western military operations in Libya under the leadership of France.
The members of these tribes believe Saif Al Islam’s trial in these abnormal conditions in their political, security and social aspects would not be fair.
Moreover, they think the latter could even play a role in forging a consensus among the Libyan parties at issue, especially with some among them converging with the suggestions and viewpoints made by Saif Al-Islam, after several secret discussions with him in Zintan.
Meanwhile, Italy, the former colonial power in Libya, doesn’t want to get involved militarily in the Libyan conflict as alleged by the US ambassador in Rome and this is in keeping with Algeria’s steadfast position stressing that the solution to the Libyan crisis must be political, excluding any foreign military intervention, for the sake stability in this North African country.
