Maj.Gen. Abdelghani Hamel Is Elected AFRIPOL Chairman For Two Years
General Director of National Security, Major General, Abdelghani Hamel, was elected, on Monday, as Chairman of the African Police Office, AFRIPOL, for two years.
Major General Hamel was elected with the approval and support of all members of this mechanism, including police leaders and officials at the level of all African countries.
“We will work to strengthen cooperation between our bodies through the development of modern communication systems, especially in the field of combating terrorism and organized transcontinental crime, at the disposal of the African police”; Major General Hamel said in a speech during the first General Assembly of the African Union for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), which continues for the second day in Algiers.
Major General Hamel expressed his “gratitude and appreciation for the great confidence that it was placed in his person by appointing him as the chairman of AFRIPOL’s General Assembly”, pledging to work on “enhancing coordination and cooperation with everyone in the framework of making good progress for this African achievement.”
After his election, the General Director of National Security, Abdelghani Hamel, asserted the importance of cooperation among the African police forces by establishing modern communication systems in the field of combating terrorism and transnational crime.
“After identifying potential strengths and gaps, we will develop an appropriate system for the effective progress of the human capacities of the African police.”
“The priority will be to support the technical capabilities of all African law enforcement agencies by ensuring the rapid exchange of the database, and supporting studies, research, training in all areas of the police and its specialties”, he said.
Maj. Gen. Hamel said: “These are the priorities of the agenda that we see at the moment necessary to meet the security challenges and current and emerging threats for the benefit of the security of our countries and our peoples.”
