Maxime Lopez Joining Algeria’s Desert Warriors Turns Into A Mystery
The issue of the player Maxime Lopez and Algeria became a mystery after the “Afrique Sports” website said the player of Algerian origins denied joining Algeria national football team and chose the French national team, creating a conflict in the news, which made his case a mystery.
In a press interview, Maxime Lopez, the attacking midfielder for Italy Serie A club Sassuolo, denied what is circulating for days about his desire to formally join the Algerian football team.
“I never thought about playing with Algeria”, Maxime Lopez told “Afrik-Foot” on Wednesday, “since I was young, I was in the French national team, so I will continue to do so, but this does not mean that I will put Algeria aside”.
This follows the statement of the Qatar Sports Channel, on Sunday, about Ali Mohamed Ali, by confirming, while commenting on the Juventus and Sassuolo match (3-1), that the 23-year-old player is close to joining the desert warriors.
Ali Mohamed Ali said: I received a text from Djamel Djebali, our correspondent in Spain, in which he confirmed to me that the former Olympic Marseille player had officially decided to wear the Algerian shirt.
Previously, Maxime Lopez sparked controversy over joining the Algerian national team for some time, especially after the Greens coach, Djamel Belmadi, confirmed that he was seeing him and could include him in the Warriors’ squad.
Belmadi said in a press statement on the sidelines of a ceremony to honour him by the French Olympique de Marseille in 2019: “I have never spoken to Maxime Lopez, he can play for the Algerian national team, and I am in the process of seeing him and following him at present, but I have not approached him at all”.
“I am watching and seeing all the players who can play for the Algerian national team, and Lopez is one of them and currently he plays for France junior, and I do not know yet what is on his mind, and who knows we may bring him to us someday”, Belmadi explained in 2019.
