Moroccan Party Calls For Confronting the Makhzen Attack on Moroccans’ Rights
The Moroccan Democratic Labor Party denounced the Makhzen regime’s targeting of the human rights and democratic movement against corruption and the unprecedented Makhzen encroachment in the country, calling on all struggling forces in the Kingdom to make more efforts and close ranks to confront the violent Makhzen attack on the rights and gains of the Moroccan people.
This came in remarks that concluded the meeting of the Political Bureau, which discussed the organized collective attack against the President of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, Aziz Ghali, against the backdrop of his position on the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, following international law.
The Moroccan party stressed that the Moroccan Association for Human Rights position on the Sahrawi issue is “independent of the Makhzen’s discourse and a well-known position and not new, deriving its foundations from the lack of a human rights culture, as is commonly known,” noting that Aziz Ghali only reiterated his previous position.
It explained that “the outbursts in traditional media and social media platforms are nothing but a war waged by the hands of the Makhzen to cover up its inability to confront human rights violations, government management mistakes, and the regime’s failure to provide basic social services to the people, which Aziz Ghali exposes,” considering it “a miserable attempt at political and media profiteering and a proxy war by the Makhzen which is trying to appear with a false patriotism to benefit from the rent.”
The Democratic Labor Approach condemned, in the strongest terms, this Makhzen attack on Aziz Ghali, in suspicious and desperate attempts to silence his voice and intimidate all voices opposing corruption and defending human rights, confirming that “this systematic attack will not be able to undermine the determination, reputation and struggle of Aziz Ghali and all the struggling forces.”
The party added that it would not be able to “dissuade the Moroccan people’s activists from continuing their struggle against the Makhzen’s encroachment and against the corruption rampant in all the state’s departments and official institutions,” calling on all the struggling forces to close ranks to confront the violent Makhzen attack on the rights and gains of the Moroccan people.
At the end of the statement, the Democratic Workers’ Approach declares its “unconditional” solidarity with Aziz Ghali, with the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, and with all the free voices that defend what remains of the people’s dignity against the tyranny, exploitation, and subordination of the dominant class alliance, it reiterates that “the unity of democrats based on the democratic struggle for a democratic national revolution is the main gateway to dignity, justice, and equality.”
