The Moroccan government was not satisfied by the good diplomatic relations between Algeria and Mauritania. Morocco’s King Mohamed the Sixth refused to receive Mauritanian foreign minister to obtain an invitation from President Ould Abdelaziz to attend the proceedings of the Arab Summit.

Last year, Algeria and Mauritania kicked the diplomats of each other. Yet, relations improved after Mauritanian foreign minister had visited Algeria late in May.

Earlier this year, Rabat said it could not host the Arab Summit which will be held in Mauritania on July 25th- 26th. Yet, it called for scheduling it to another date. Because of that, Mauritanian media said Morocco’s position is linked to the improvement of Algerian-Mauritanian relations.

A Mauritanian website reported that the government kicked out a number of Moroccan workers at a local telecom company. It said they hold sensitive technical positions which should be held by Mauritanians.

A Mauritanian delegation was sent to camps in Tindouf to show condolences after the death of Sahrawi President Mohamed Abdelaziz.

Algerian Maghrebin affairs minister Abdelkader Messahel said Mauritania made a great achievement by holding the Arab Summit amid those extraordinary circumstances.

He added that Algeria is ready to support the Mauritanian government to make the event successful.
