Morocco Gains $ 330 Million From Looting Western Sahara's Phosphate

International Observatory for the Protection of Natural Resources published a detailed presentation of all companies that are involved in the purchase of phosphate of the occupied Western Sahara.

This report was based on follow-ups and analyses that targeted 109 of cargo carriers, which reached the port of Laayoune city in Western Sahara, in the years 2012 and 2013.

Indeed, the report that was prepared in 27 pages under the title “Who are the controversial phosphate customers?” Morocco’s purchased products from Western Sahara in 2013 by 10 companies which were identified and two suppliers are still unidentified, and they all belong to ten countries, as only two companies, which are “Potash Corp” from the United States and “LIFOSA” from Lithuania own 50% of the rate of purchases.

It details the full size of the exports of Western Sahara in 2013, by 2.2 million tons that were shipped in 48 cargo ships, and are valued at $330 million, which is more than what was exported in 2012 by 400.000 tons.

“Among the ten companies which were identified as importers of phosphate in 2013, there are six companies that are listed on markets of global stocks and which controlled the majority of them, and the other four were placed in the blacklist by noble investors who care about the issue of basic human rights and international law.”

International observatory for the protection of natural resources called upon all the companies that are involved in this trade to immediately stop all purchases of Western Sahara phosphate, until finding a solution to the dispute over the territory, saying; “All investors are invited to challenge companies or withdraw their investments if no action is taken in this regard.”
