Morocco’s foreign minister Salaheddine Mezouar Monday held Algeria responsible for hindrances faced by the Arab Maghrebin Union. The reason is, according to him, “Algeria’s stubborn mentality,” saying his country worked for making it successful.

“There is a country which hinders. Those who accuse Morocco are wrong. My country does not have a stubborn mentality. We want dynamism. We do not look at the past but we are looking forward the future,” the Moroccan official told Al Jazzera channel.

Earlier, Morocco’s King Mohamed the Sixth sent a letter to Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on the anniversary of the Union’s creation. It said that Rabat considers the Maghrebin Union as a strategic choice and will spare no effort to achieve integration between its five members.

Mezouar also criticized an agreement signed by Bamako’s Central Government and Azawad partisans under Algeria’s sponsorship. He described it as a “deal meant to win time only.”

Speaking about Algeria but without naming it, he said the parties which supported that agreement does not have any political will.
