Muqtada al-Sadr calls on Algerians to be united with Shiite minorities

Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called on Shiite Algerians for be united with other minorities and not be isolated.

“It is important to give freedom to all beliefs and doctrines to express opinion and practice rituals. Governments should not be submitted to fatalists,” al-Sadr said in a release reported by Iraqi News Agency.

Al-Sadr alleged that there is a vulnerable and oppressed Shiite minority in Algeria, calling on them not be afraid and working with other minorities.

This call is seen as a clear attempt to hit Algeria’s national unity through Shiism.

A year ago, video records posted on the Internet showed a number of people practicing Shiite rituals in funerals in the province of Oran. It was not confirmed whether they were Algerians or of other nationalities.

Al-Sadr also called on Shiite people in Egypt to face injustice and be united with other sects.
