New school year: lack of headmasters and classrooms
The same problems of precedent years appeared once again at the beginning of the current school year due to the lack of teachers and crowded classrooms.
National secretary in charge of organization at the Education Workers’ Union Kouider Yahiaoui said a report was submitted to authorities. It assessed the first week of the new school year. It showed that the number of pupils in some classrooms exceeded 50.
“In a high school in the province of Biskra (south of Algeria), the number of pupils reached 1,400 while there is 27 classrooms only. Some pupils have not started studying yet,” Yahiaoui told Echorouk.
“The report also shows that there is a lack of teachers in mathematics, French language and physics. Pupils are still without teachers,” he added.
He also said the new school year started with “old” problems as new schools were inaugurated but without headmasters.
