No problem for 17 Guantanamo Algerian detainees to enter Algeria

Algerian Justice Minister Tayeb Belaiz denied that Algeria accepted any restrictions or conditions on Guantanamo Algerian prisoners who want to enter Algeria.

This comes in response to recent American statements on the Algerian government refusal to receive its prisoners.

Tayeb Belaiz confirmed the presence of 17 Algerians in Gunatanmo.

“We were honest from the beginning with all those who want to come to Algeria and we told them that there was no problem,” he told Echorouk.

“It is their constitutional right to come here, so welcome for everyone he added.

According to him, terror suspects will be trialled following the Algerian laws but those who are not involved will go home without any restrictions.

Justice Minister mentioned that any detainee in Russia, Britain or USA is not prohibited neither by a minister nor by a judge to go back home.

The Minister stressed the need to respect the terms of litigation by virtue of the Criminal Procedure Code.

He requested the opening of a file concerning an investigation on the proportion of cases stored in a court in Tipaza in 2006 and which was amounted to 33 percent. A figure that puzzled the minister and made him insisting on the need to be sure about respecting and preserving citizens’ cases.
