Nouri al-Maliki: Qatar tried to smuggle Saddam
Iraq’s former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Qatar tried to smuggle President Saddam Hussein with the help of the International Security Council.
“There were attempts to postpone the execution of Saddam Hussein for 15 days. I rejected them and decided to execute him in the Eid Day’s morning,” Al-Maliki said in a conference.
Iraq’s former President Saddam Hussein was executed, ten years ago.
According to al-Maliki, there was a plan to issue a decision to reject the execution.
“Qatar tried to pay large sums of money to smuggle Saddam Hussein from prison. Yet, I decided to execute him few hours later. I decided to go to the prison by myself and take them to the execution place if a decision was issued to release him,” he added.
“Qatar and its supporters wanted to achieve the conspiracy and save Saddam. Yet, my decision was the quickest,” he also said.
